Over the course of the last 32 Years, I have witnessed and conducted maintenance on countless wireless links. My experiences have shown that many links are not properly aligned. In the beginning, we had to do the math to figure out what the Receiver Signal Level (RSL) should be. Now, we just need to plug in the numbers using link planning software. As helpful as this may be, it is only part of the process. Both antennas need to be aligned vertically and horizontally to achieve the correct RSL. It is estimated that 40% of the antennas deployed are misaligned. This statistic is not shocking news to me and I believe there is truth in that number. If you think you have a problem with your wireless link, please consider giving Caltuck a call to rectify any RSL discrepancies that can cause intermittent transmission.
This year we have introduced our “active” network monitoring service packages for our customers. In the past, we have always utilized passive monitoring for our customer networks to aid us in resolving any background issues. However, with our local network monitoring package service, for a nominal charge, we can actively diagnose problems on-the-fly to resolve customer network issues much quicker and efficiently. This service allows our customers receive real-time notifications via text or e-mail about any data network issues or internet traffic complications.
Two of the most frequently asked questions from our customers are, “The internet was down, was that my problem or my Internet Service Provider? and “How much bandwidth am I using?”
In 2017, Caltuck was called upon to help UTS Sint Maarten recover from the devastating damage caused by Hurricane Irma. Our extensive knowledge of wireless networking was extremely valuable in assisting UTS engineers and technicians evaluate and restore their island communication network. UTS has been a long time customer of Caltuck and we felt immensely blessed to help them in their time of need. God bless the people of Sint Maarten and we wish them the very best in the restoration effort.
